Running a pentium 3 with 128 mb ram. Upgraded to larger
disk drive and bios to handle it yesterday. This same
machine, with the old bios and smaller drive had already
ben running xp with no problems.

I booted and installed the os from the cd. Installation
seemed to go well, but when I boot up, it hangs at
the "loading personal preferences" screen.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dan

How does one upgrade to a "larger BIOS",you can update the version but "larger" ..
128mb is awfully low for xp,256mb is min.,however try booting to xp cd,repair, type:
CHKDSK C: /R when its thru type:EXIT

Ok, you caught me in a dangling participle (or something like that). I
should have said "upgraded to larger disk drive and a later version of the
bios".

Actually, I've determined that the problem is with the new bios, though I
don't know what to do about it. Since the pc was working perfectly before
installing the larger disk drive and new bios, I decided to boot off the old
drive which is still intact. I get exactly the same results. It hangs on
boot up. The only thing I've changed that could possibly effect that would
be the bios. I reflashed the bios and I got a checksum error. this is on
Award 6.0. If anybody has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. I'll be
calling the tech support number where I bought it tomorrow. They're only
open weekdays 8-5. Hopefully they're in tomorrow.
