System hangs after restart

I am using an onboard AMD Geode GX1 processor 300 mhz with the amd cs5530a
chipset. the image boots properly and there are no errors. However if the
system is restarted it hangs and there is nothing but a black screen. any
ideas?

cal4,

I was using GX1 a while ago and did not notice such behavior. (but chipset was different)

Anyway, could you give a bit more info on the problem?
What command do you use to issue the reboot?
What happens if you just power down the machine and start it again?
How XP Pro behaves there?
What is your image based on? Minlogon or Winlogon?
Any errors in Device manager, FBALog.txt, SetupApi.log?
When you reboot do you see the POST?
Do you have a non-zero timeout set in the boot.ini? If you do and you don't see the ntldr menu, it hangs earlier.
Any chance for you to attach KD to the device to see where it hangs?

KM,
I think my problem actually is in virtual memory. I have been testing
the image today and when i restart the system from the start menu this is
when problems occur. during the reboot a low virtual memory warning appears.
I think im going to have to look into this issue to maybe solve the reboot
issue.

KM,
OK, well unfortunately i didnt build this image, but i am the one who
is responsible to try and fix it. i checked the components in TD. EWF is
not in use. The system memmory is 256MEG SODIMM. The target media device is
a CF. The file system used on the CF is NTFS. All necessary compenents are
installed for NTFS. The file size is 150MEG compressed and 210MEG
uncompressed. winlogon and minlogon are not in the build. When i go to
check device manager an error message unable to check device manger file or
something to that effect pops up. I am going to run it through an fba to see
wat happens there. Thanks.

cal4,

Was not really clear - do you have a way to re-build the image? Or what you got is just a device with the image running on it?

also, what you meant by "winlogon and minlogon are not in the build"? I suspect you have got Winlogon based image as the image size
is pretty big and you also mentioned Start menu earlier.

Just for testing purposes, try to issue a command like "\windows\fba\fba.exe -reboot" and see if it reboots the device properly.

Hi,

I'm not sure if it is related, but I once had a problem when I ran an image
on a new board and I recieved a black screen during the boot process and
then it hang.
the reason for it was that I used a ACPI - ATX type of configuration instead
of AT-Standard PC configuration.

hope it helps.

KM,
I am finally back th trying to solve this problem. I am currently
tryin to get a running version of XP Pro running. I am missing two drivers
though, and perhaps you would be ablt to lead me to where the most recent
updates are. I need a driver for the PCI bridge, This driver i beleive will
be specific for the cs530a. There was a VGA issue which i was able to
resolve by using AMD Geode(TM) GX1 Processor Windows XP/XPe Display Driver.
I am also missing the audio controller. I have been trying to locate the GX1
Processor WDM Audio Driver v1.1.5 with no luck so far. I have cross
referenced all the drivers that were used for the original XP Embedded image.
Most of these driver were for NT!!!! I think with fresh new drivers that
make a functional XP Pro will help solve my problem with XPe by removing old
componentized drivers for NT with new componentized drivers for XP.

Thanks,
cal4

cal4,

I re-read the thread and got lost.

What currently you have running on the hardware? (NT, XP, XPe?)
Are you saying that XP Pro does not have some drivers to support the hardware?
Why not contacting the hardware manufacturer for the latest diver versions?
When you run TAP on the device (e.g., booting off CD with WinPE) and import the result PMQ file, does it resolve all the drivers
from XPe database?
