Can anyone explain why windows sill locks up the whole system when a window
can't find a network drive or is trying to access information about a mapped
network drive on a slow VPN network.

Why can't that task be performed in the background so that you can continue
to work normally.

It's got to be some inherent holdover from the IBM system
architecture...because as computers get faster and faster, this particular
slowdown never seems to go away.

What is really annoying is that if you get tired of waiting and close the
window and "end" the explorer window, the screen goes blank and the system
has to reload your desktop. What's that all about???
