System hangs up online or not. Have Norton, Aol IM
installed but have not been able to isolate problem.
Hardware checks out OK but when the system hangs,
ctrl+alt+del does nothing - EVERYTHING is locked I can't
end task, restart, reboot, get mouse or keyboard activity
at all. What to do when this happens - besides holding the
power off switch until cpu shuts down???

I had the same problem and checking around it is not unique in XP.I tried
everything suggested for months until eventually I ' Loaded Fail Safe
Defaults ' in set up and the prblem vanished.I don't know why or how but wnt
it did.
Hope this helps.

Where can I find "Fail Safe Defaults"? Satoshi

Satoshi, they're referring to a feature in some BIOS setup screens. When
available, this will start the system with a conservative configuration.
For example, in addition to manual setup - my BIOS offers "Safe" and
"Optimal" choices.

XP setup can be very sensitive to overclocking or ambitious settings in
BIOS. Rolling back to more conservative settings, at least until XP is
installed, is not a foolproof solution but works for enough folks that it
is a worthwhile suggestion.
