I have a new dell laptop operating on windows xp, and
after setting up wireless internet access, outlook
express, asst'd programs, etc. i'm getting the following
error on the bottom active taskbar, everytime i start up
the computer:

Windows - system error
A duplicate name exists on the network

It doesn't adversely affect anything, but i'd like to
know how to get rid of it and what i did to make it
appear in the first place.

Anyone know?

Thanks,
Maria Mosca

Hi Maria,
Check the name of your computer by going to control
panel / system / Computer Name / "Full Computer name".
The name as it is now is also being used by someone else
on your network. To change the name, click the Change...
button on this dialog. Changing it to something more
unique should eliminate this error.

Good luck!

thank you, scattman. it worked!
