System Disk error

I'm a college student currently, and I left for T-giving weekend, I come back
and my turn on my computer to find it saying "Disk boot failure, Insert
system disk and press enter" I'm not totally sure what happened here at all.
A virus maybe, or something I may have done before I shut it down last. But I
doubt that. I've got firewalls, popup blockers, ad-ware, and anti-virus
programs that I update and do very often. I'm confused on this one on why it
happened and how I can get a system disk. I've looked in my storage and don't
seem to have one. If any help at all can be given it would be very much
appreciated. Thank you.

Think about it,system being OS=XP,disk being the hd=C: and "Disk boot failure"
the system boots off of C: drive.Start up computer, enter the BIOS,install
xp cd,
then select in BIOS to boot to xp cd,(boot priority devices or
similiar),then exit
BIOS,at info screen select, recovery, press enter for password, then type:
CHKDSK C: /R When its thru type:EXIT Let xp start up,and/or reenter BIOS
and
select C: as 1st priority device.

1) If you have a floppy-disk-drive ensure that there is no floppy in the
drive (thats a old trick that always was used to make users wondering).

2) If yes, Check BIOS if a harddrive was found. If no harddrive is found
check the cables. After ensuring that all cables are connected properly
listen if the harddrive is running.

3) Startup with your Windows-CD and try to perform a setup. If a operating
system is found setup tells U what was found. If so, try to perform the
"Repair installation" option. Maybe your bootsector has gone corrupted.

If nothing works your harddrive probaly may be defect.

Hmm, but I'm not sure how to get into BIOS....is that where you push F1or the
setup before it boots? Or doesn't in this case. Also, if I go through the
recovery process and all, am I going to be doing a full system recovery,
where I lose all my data on the drive? I would hope not.

Ok...I was able to get into setup by pushing F1 when I started the computer.
I changed my 1st priority boot devices to hard drive, and the 3rd was already
like that with the 2nd as the CD-ROM, but I haven't gotten anywhere.....so
I'm still lost on this.
