System Date Rollover to 2009 occurred two days early

On 12/30/08 I noticed the Today() function of Excel (2003) showed 01/01/09. I
worked around it at the time and though it might straighten itself out in a
few days. Today an automated backup performed by a non-Microsoft application
posted a date of 01/03/09. I figured there must be a System Date function
somewhere but I haven't found it yet. Any suggestions?

Not that i want you to put your foot in your mouth publicly, but I would
be interested in knowing what you found.
 
No problem with the public hoof-in-mouth. I learn as I go.

I never figured out why the date rolled over early, just that I could change
it (once the new year began) using the control panel date function.
