Sometimes when I install some software or Windows service
packs and upgrades, afterwards whenever I boot up my
system the "System 32" folder opens (it actually becomes
a start-up item for some reason). In the past, I have
attributed it to perhaps old versions of programs that
may not work well with Windows XP, and I have conducted a
system restore and the issue goes away.
A couple of days ago, however, I installed the XP Service
Pack 2, and then also installed some PDA software. The
SP2 installation did not go real smoothly and the
Microsoft update site instructed me to download and
install the service pack again. I did that, but when I
was done, the System 32 folder started popping up again.
So I attempted to do a System Restore hoping to get rid
of the SP2 and re-download and re-install it. But now my
system will no longer do a system restore. No matter what
date I choose, my system will not perform a restore.
So my problem is now two-fold: 1) the appearance of the
System32 folder, and 2) the inability to complete a
system restore.
Does anyone have any advice? Has anyone experienced
similar problems? Please advise.
