I recently had to reinstall XP because of a malicious invasion. Since that
time, I have had a lot of trouble opening email and browing due to numerous
error messages, regarding System 32. The most common message, at least in
Email, is:You entered "res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm"
Sometimes the message in Web browing is different....and they all contain a
list of advertising sites, among other things.
I have been told my Windows is infected and I need to go to a computer
repair shop to get it fixed. Is this true? Or can I do something myself?

If you have files, music, and settings you'd like to keep, install xp cd,run
file
transfer wizard (set as old computer),select the data to save, save the data
in
a new folder you created,once its thru,move to a cd.As for windows,install
xp cd,
exit the info page, restart computer, boot to xp cd,at xp cd boot screen
select,
install xp,new copy,delete partition,create one,then let xp format and do a
clean installation.Youre old errors, and malicious will be in the past.

Thanks....but I have been told I also would have to reinstall all the Service
Packs and updates to XP, which would take days, plus my Norton, anti-spyware,
and other programs. So if I just don't do anything, and live with those
error messages, would I be risking more problems? Sounds like the simplest
thing to do to me, as long as my basic ability to navigate and open files is
still okay. What about it?
