for about 1 week when I start windows XP home I get the
following message. C:\windows\systb.dll is not a valid
windows image. Please check against your installation
diskette. When I click on C:\windows\systb.exe I get a
similar message. Can I restore these from the
installation disk, and how? Do I need to reinstall XP?

"Systb.exe" is not a Windows XP system file.

Download Ad-Aware 6.0 and scan your PC for spyware:

Systb.dll is an adware file and should be removed from
your system along with the rest of the spyware/adware on
your machine.

You should go to www.lavasoftusa.com and download a copy
of Ad-Aware which is free. Install the program and at
the main screen, click on Check for updates. Next scan
your system and when it's finished scanning, click next
to see the scan results. At this page, if the boxes are
not all checked, right click on any checkbox and choose
Select All Objects. Hit next or finish to quarantine the
spyware. Repeat the process until it no longer finds any
spyware. If you find that you get to a point where it
will delete everything but just a stubborn few, go to
www.lavasoftsupport.com and post a message in their
forum. Someone will gladly help you to get rid of the
rest.

You will probably want to scan your system regularly as
spyware is a growing problem with no end in sight. Be
sure that each new day that you scan that you click on
Check for updates as they post updates frequently. Just
like an antivirus program, it will not detect newly
written spyware with old spyware tables.

Good Luck!
