Hi,
I am in the process of adding a few applications and customizations to an already pre-factory image from HP and was wondering if anyone could help me in the process of syspreping this image. I know the sysprep process is different for XPe and I think is called FBReseal and so any help would be really appreciated

Thanks

Robb,

What kind of help you are looking for? The "sysprep" on XPe is a
straightforward process and easy to understand and implement giving access
to the project sources (Configuration SLX, component SLDs, etc.). Did you
get the TD project from HP to add your applications? What exactly you've
been given from HP to work on the image? (as we have had experience with HP
images, it is most likely just a binary image, isn't it?).

Give us more info on your system and exactly problems you're fighting with
so that we could help you.

You would also probably be interested in reading XPe documentation:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/xpehelp/html/xeoriDeployingRun-TimeI
mage.asp. It includes all the required info for FBA, Reseal, etc.

Thanks for the quick response.

I haven't been given anything, the image that I am
working with is the image you can download from there
website. From there I add and remove applications that I
need and then some customizations for each user that will
login into the machine (Domain). Also I am using Altiris
RIP feature to add and remove applications. The company I
work for plan on rolling about 3000 of these devices and
would like to sysprep the machine to reset the SID and
then have the ability to setup some of the initial
options upon boot up, like you can with sysprep.
I appeciate any help you have for me.

Thanks

Hi Robb,

Unfortunately I don't know what features are present in HP image, so I can
be of little assistance with your problem.
Read the link that Konstantin gave you.
Also read more about cloning.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/xpehelp/htm
l/xeconCloning.asp

Tweaking runtime image not build by you can be tricky, and since you are
planning mass production, you should consider buying XPe tools and start
building your image.

If all are concerned about is regenerating the SID's, I believe Altiris will do that for you (there should be a utility called sidgen.exe included with the altiris management/server piece). If not, sysinternals (www.sysinternals.com) has a utility to regenerate SIDs and assign unique computer names

Last but not least, you can download the evaluation version of the MS windows xp embedded tools and grab fbreseal.exe from there. Just make your changes, run fbreseal.exe (which will prompt you to reboot) and capture your image

Using HP's image as a base for your custom images is certainly feasible, and is a good jumping-off point if you don't have the time to invest in building your own image from scratch (today's HP image has been in development for over a year). I downloaded the eval version of XPe and then installed tools from the download, but still no FBReseal.exe. However I do see other folders from that install. If you can let me know what I am doing wrong or possible someone could send it to me

Thanks

Robb,

Hope you install XPe database (that includes XPe Repository). You will find
the latest fbreseal.exe somewhere under "\Windows Embedded
Data\Repositories\{347677C8-8935-4d30-8DDA-FB6D701ACF47}\".
Although, it will be hard to use the tool if you don't read the XPe docs on
how it works.
