sysprep with a distribution share on a server

how is the best way to create a distribution share on a server.... all i did was copy the i386 files to the server ... start up setup manager and it created a windist share.... did I do this procedure correctly or was there an administrator install or msi file needed to perform the distribution share correctly.... now here is my ignorance showing.... now that i completed a network share.... How am I going to complete/setup a a new computer without an operating system to point to the distribution share... Any suggestions or links would be appreciated.

Boot to MS-DOS, load DOS networking, map the share, and run
i386\winnt.exe.
