Using zonealarm, a trojan has been detected and attached
to C:\System Volume Information\_restore........... The
report says this file is uncleanable. Any help in
deleting the file? Thanks in advance.

Using Windows XP Home Edition w/o sp1 or sp2.

You'll need to either disable System Restore, or delete the effected restore
point (if you know via the System Restore tool). To disable it go to

Contol Panel
-> System
--> System Restore
--> Check turn off (this will remove all restore points)
----> Press apply
-----> Turn it back on (if you want) and the trojan should be gone.

If your OS is seriously that out of date then I would highly recommend
getting a virus scanner pronto (www.grisoft.com) getting a spyware
checker(http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ or
http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html)

Give your system a good clean, and then install Service Pack 2 immediately.

Hi

Try turning SR off/on - but I'm afraid that you will lose any existing
checkpoints:

Right click My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore tab.
Enable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC. After
that 1st reboot go back into SR and disable 'Turn off System Restore on all
drives' and reboot your PC again. After that 2nd reboot you should have one
new SR checkpoint.

May I suggest that yuo visit the Windows Update page to update your version
of XP. There are Security/Critical updates that will help portect your
system You needn't install SP1/1a, but can install SP2 straight onto your
system
