sys restore probs

Had probs, so restore was used to set the sys back.
Since then, a popup saying "windows installer" and "preparing to install..."
keeps coming up. It doesn't show what pgm is being installed. Sometimes more
than one instance will display.
adware, spyware & virus scans run with no probs, and mult reboots show no
change.
Even installed & ran a registry cleaner.
Any suggestions?
