SyncToy - backup question

I'm using SyncToy to backup text files and photos. I noticed that when I
used "Echo" to backup to my external hard drive, only one file did not backup
to the external drive. I was working on a Word text document and the
document was saved, but not closed. This open file did not backup to the
external drive. When I closed the Word document and tried the Echo backup
again, the Word document backed up fine.

Is this a bug, or do I always need to close out of open programs before
running the SyncToy backup?

Thanks

By default (that can't be changed in this context) the OS will normally only
allow one program at a time to have access to a particular file (this is to
prevent corruption of the file). You have to close the file out of the Word
program before the second program SyncToy will have access to it.

Because of this you can't backup many of the files in the Windows Folder
using most copy programs such as Xcopy, SyncToy or even Windows Explorer.
