Hello,

I have an attorney that uses a pop3 account at home. He wants to pull
all of his contacts from our exchange server to his home PC running outlook
/ outlook express. I can get him to setup the pop account correctly and
recieve new mail... however i am unsure about the easiest / most logical way
to pull down his contacts from our exchange box. Any input is appreciated.

Thank you,

Sonny

Why not have him use OWA?
You could look into IMAP if you want more functionality than POP grants
you...but I'd still go with OWA, or VPN if he wants to use Outlook to
connect to the server & see his mailbox, GAL, public folders, etc...

thanks for the help... i will check into IMAP, but we did not want to really
make any pop changes due to the fact that we run a secure account through
pop...

but my owa server does work fine and he can pull his contacts... if you
never worked at a law firm, or dealt with attorneys my question would seem
idiotic... however, he 'NEEDS' to view his contacts through outlook / via
pop, from home...

:)

all in the day of an IT guy... thanks again

IMAP=POP done right.

What about VPN for him so he can work with his full mailbox?

vpn... what do you want me to be oncall 24/7 for troubleshooting?

actually I also have a TS box that I allow them to logon to so that they can
be 'in the office' at home... the request is to use his pop account AND have
his contact...

ridiculous, absolutely... redundant?? totally... unresolved? still. :p

imap would be nice but the 'secure' mail can only be pop3 since it is a twig
account... trust me, I despise pop3 just like anyone else.

Sonny.

monster.com ? ;-)

Don't know what to tell you - what he wants (POP -->PST and syncing PST
contacts with mailbox contacts) isn't possible in any way that I can think
of. You can export his contacts to a PST file he can then import, but that
ain't syncing.

Export the contacts to a .pst file and save it on a CD. Have the Attorney
copy the .pst file to his hard drive, right click and remove the check from
read only. Then, have him open Outlook, use File->Open->Outlook Data file
and select the Contacts.pst file. Voila. He now has access via POP to his
Exchange addresses.

If you were talking about the Global Address List, then there is this
method:

guys ... i honestly thank you for the replies and proposed fixes... i
already have the .pst loaded on his laptop that they take to and from
work... however this guy wants his home pc to be identical to the laptop...

now asking him to take a cd home and make a couple steps to import the .pst
is ludicris... i'm assuming you guys never dealt with attorneys. but thanks
for the help... i got him under control for the time being...

i'd hit monster.com if i could take the pay cut :p
