Tygrinn,

What type of operating system and synchronization software are installed on
the handheld? If it is a MS solution using ActiveSync you'll want to make
sure that it is enabled on the Exchange server.

Kind Regards,

Huh? ActiveSync doesn't need any connection to an Exchange server in order
to sync with Outlook and nothing I know on the server when there is one
requires enabling.

Brian,

ActiveSync would be needed for some phone operating systems to sync directly
with Exchange.

Of course. That's not the point. The original OP said:

"I have a SE k750i cell phone that I want to sync with my outlook 2003
calendar,
tasks and notes."

You said:

"If it is a MS solution using ActiveSync you'll want to make

Where in the OP's question does s/he mention Exchange? Whether Outlook uses
Exchange or not doesn't make a difference in whether or not the cell phone
can sync with Outlook, at least as far as I can tell. In fact, I don't know
if the phone is even a Windows Mobile phone (I suspect not), since Sony
Ericsson offers its own software to syncing (Syncstation). A Windows Mobile
phone would use ActiveSync and that doesn need to (although it can) sync
with Exchange.

Brian,

With all due respect, our objective in these newsgroups is to aid
individuals and to solicit information when we need assistance.

As I'm sure that you know, we don't always get all the information from
posters that we need in order to answer questions. In my humble opinion, it
was certainly constructive to ask the user for additional information and to
offer some information that may be of help if certain criteria were met.

That goes without saying.

While you did ask a question about the sync software, and I have no issue
with that, if you read my responses, you made an untrue statement by saying
something needed to be "enabled on the Exchange server". It is that with
which I have trouble, since 1) ActiveSync doesn't require anything on the
Exchange server to sync with Outlook, 2) you had no evidence an Exchange
server was even involved, and 3) it was fairly easy to tell the phone
doesn't employ ActiveSync.

Brian,

If the phone uses certain operating systems it can make use of ActiveSync to
connect directly with the Exchange server. In such cases the
synchronization is between the phone and Exchange, not between Exchange &
Outlook or between the phone & Outlook. ActiveSync must be enabled on the
Exchange server in order for this functionality to work. Most users want to
sync the data to their email system and do not differentiate between Outlook
& Exchange. Please read my first post in this thread and you'll see that I
did not make "an untrue statement," but stated that "If it is a MS solution
using ActiveSync you'll want to make sure that it is enabled on the Exchange
server."

As you pointed out, the user did not specify Exchange anywhere in the
message. He also did not specify what type of software he was using. That
is why I asked, "What type of operating system and synchronization software
are installed on the handheld?"

I have and you did, but I can see that it's pointless to pursue this.
