Symbols and coding print instead of words from templates, why?

I'm using Word 2007. I created an 18-page manual with screenshot pictures,
tables, a template for the header and footer, and a Table of Contents that I
can automatically rather than manually update. The document looks great in
word and the print preview, but when I print it strange coding appears all
over the pages instead of my text.

In the header it says !"#$%&'()%!&'$+,'(")*!,-"!&'

Other places the strange characters are mixed with my text.

All other documents print normally on this printer.

The document appears to have some corruption. Copy all but the last
paragraph mark and paste it into a new blank document to see if that effects
a fix.. (Display the paragraph marks with the ¶ button (CTRL+*).)
