It appears that the anti-spam Add-On Pack for NIS 2008 does not (client)
integrate with Vista's Windows Mail. Am I right, or have I overlooked
something?

Perhaps Norton finally realized that Windows Mail does not take kindly
to outside interference.

I have Norton 360 installed and although I can receive mail happily, to send
mail I have to log out of windows mail and log back ino it. when it logs
back in it happily sends the contents of the outbox.

I queried thi here and with Symantec, here is theri reply:-

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Symantec Technical Support.

I understand from your message that some of your outgoing emails are not
being sent.

I understand the difficulties that you are experiencing. Please be informed
that Norton 360 does not have an option called Outgoing email scanning. This
feature is being removed in Norton 360. However, incoming email scanning
feature is still available. This modification has done due to the fact that
your computer will not have infections since Norton 360 is already installed.
There is no need of outgoing email scanning, as Auto-Protect always protect
your computer in real time.

Note: I want to assure you that Norton 360 is compatible with Windows Mail.

To make sure that your Norton 360 is not causing the issue, please disable
all features of Norton 360 and check for the issue. Before you begin, please
make sure that your Norton 360 is updated with all latest updates. To do so,
please run LiveUpdate. To run LiveUpdate individually, please follow the
steps given below:

1. Start Norton 360.
2. Click on the link Tasks & Settings.
3. Click on the link, Check for Updates.
4. This will initiate LiveUpdate. Let the LiveUpdate finish. This may take
some time.

Once you have completed LiveUpdate, please restart your computer and check
for the issue. If the issue persists, please disable your firewall and Email
Check, then check for the issue. To disable the features, please follow the
steps given below:

1. Start Norton 360.
2. Click Tasks & Settings.
3. Click Change Advanced Settings.
4. Click Virus & Spyware Protection Settings.
5. Uncheck Turn on Email Check.
6. Click Apply. You may see a warning, do not worry about this.
7. Click Back, then click on Firewall Protection Settings.
8. Select Off, mentioned below Firewall.
9. Click Apply. Select 'Until I turn it back on', and click OK.
10. Click Close.

Once you have tested the e-mail, please turn back both features on.

If the issue persists even after disabling email check and firewall, this
indicates that your Norton 360 is not creating the issue. Please contact
Microsoft or your Internet Service Provider for further assistance. We thank
you for your patience and co-operation in this regard.

However, if the issue is resolved by disabling firewall and Email Check,
please test your email sending by disabling only one of the features. Then,
reply to this e-mail with the information that which feature is causing the
issue. I will be glad to assist you further.

If we can be of further assistance with this issue, please let us know. It
will be a pleasure to help you.

Regards,

Symantec Technical Support

Norton, McAfee, and now Trend have been known for being more interested
in getting your money than in getting their products to work reliably with
Windows Mail. They seem to have made the problems usually take a few
months to show up, but have not eliminated then entirely. Be thankful
that's
the worst problem you have so far.

Sometimes it helps to click on Tools, then Options, then Send. If there is
no
check mark in the box before Send messages immediately, click on this box,
then Apply. Click on OK.

I've tried every way to send , tools, send & receive, Ctrl M, Send & receive
from the menu bar. The only thing that works is to close winmail then reopen
it. Someone somewhere is telling lies.

So you haven't tried my suggestion of how to make it try to send (without
also receiving) as soon as you have a message to send? A few email
servers don't like the order in which Windows Mail does a combined
send and receive, and this method sometimes helps by making it do them
separately.

Symantec (Norton) tech support is not telling you the whole truth.
Interesting that they are removing outbound email scanning from their
product, but that's not going far enough. The same reason they gave
for removing outbound scanning also applies to inbound scanning!

I also disagree with their statement that "If the issue persists even after
disabling email check and firewall, this indicates that your Norton 360
is not creating the issue." We have seen case after case here where
no relief was obtained until the product was completely uninstalled.
