Hi Guys,

I have a problem with the add-in for outlook which uses symantec Corp to
scan mail incomming. Now the add it got a bit messed when installing office
03 enterprise. When I recieve a mail which contains an infected mail it no
longer alerts or deletes the message because the add-in is not installed. I
have ran the detect and repair function from the help menu and oes not
resolve my issue.

Can someone please help me.

Regards

Aaron

The scanning of incoming (and outgoing) mail is so fraught with problems
that you really shouldn't do it. Symantec's anti-virus program (Norton
AntiVirus?) is known to mess Outlook up for many combinations of
Outlook/NAV).

NAV, however, also contains an on-access scanner; that is, there is a
scanner service that runs all the time and usually displays an icon in the
notification area of the system tray. Because this scanner runs all the
time, it onviates the need for scanning incoming messages, since, if you try
to open an infected attachment, that attachment will be written to disk
where it will be caught by the on-access scanner, thereby preventing
infection. Likewise, because this on-access scanner is running, there can't
be any infected files on your PC (or they would have been caught already),
so the scanning of outgoing messages is a pure waste of time, since none
will ever be caught.

All this is said predicated on the assumption that you keep your AV scanner
up to date. You'll have far fewer mail problems if you remove the AV
integration with mail.
