Insert the WinXP Pro installation CD and perform an upgrade.

Over and above Bruce's correct answer, may I ask why? It was almost
certainly a waste of time to go to Home instead of Professional in the first
place, and it's likely to be a similar waste of time to go back again.

Home and Professional are identical except that Professional includes a few
features (mostly networking and security features) that aren't in Home. For
the great majority of home users (even those with a home network) none of
these features would ever be used, and they wouldn't see any difference
between the two.

because ken, in the mist of getting rid of their profiles i lost some updates
and some other files. this pc is slightly a mess least considering where it
was last week its only slightly
it didn't come with and install cd

In that case, depending on what you've lost, trying to upgrade to another
operating system may be the *worst* thing you can do. An upgrade from XP
Home to Professional normally works very well, but the one time it may not
work well is when you are having problems; it can exacerbate the problems
instead of fixing them.

Can you tell us exactly what you've lost?

If you don't have a CD, your options will be very limited. You probably have
a hidden restore partition and will have to rely on the manufacturers
instructions for using it to put your system back to factory condition. That
means the loss of everything on the drive you've put there, so back up
anything you need first.
