Where can I find info on manually removing WinXP pro
preinstalled on a Dell box and installing Win2K Pro in
its place?

You don't really need a manual - it's so simple:

a) The scorched earth method: Boot the machine with
your Win2000 CD and select "Format" when prompted.

b) The softer method: Boot the machine with your
Win2000 CD and allow Windows 2000 to be installed
in c:\WinNT. When finished, remove the WinXP system
folder (most likely c:\Windows).

*sigh*

Removing Windows XP to replace with a previous OS like Windows 2000 is this:

1) Backup all important data.

2) Boot with the Windows 2000 CD and delete all partitions with Windows XP
installed upon them.
Install Windows 2000.

Or, 2) boot with the Windows XP CD like you were going to install Windows
XP.
When it asks which partition to install on, DELETE all partitions.
Reboot after this step is completed with the installation media of choice.

Or, 2) go to www.bootdisk.com and download a boot diskette with FDISK on
it - use that to boot with and delete all partitions. Reboot after this
step is completed with the installation media of choice.

Greetings --

There is no "rollback" to Win2K.

To replace WinXP with an earlier OS, you'll have to boot from the
appropriate boot disk, format the hard drive, and install. There is
no supported downgrade path or technique.

Simply boot from the Win2K installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and/or format the system partition as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
