SWAPPING ONE USB DRIVE WITH A REPLACEMENT

WINDOWS XP HOME SYSTEM. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF: (1). I
INSTALL A NEW REPLACEMENT USB DRIVE ON MY SYSTEM. (2).
COPY MY OLD USB DRIVE TO THE NEW USB (SAME SIZE). (3).
SHUTDOWN MY SYSTEM. (4). REMOVE THE OLD DRIVE. (5).
RESTART THE SYSTEM. WILL WINDOWS BELIEVE THAT THE NEW
DRIVE IS THE OLD DRIVE AND USE IT AS SUCH. OR WILL
WINDOWS XP HAVE PROBLEMS WITH REGISTRY KEYS AND NOT RUN
THE PROGRAMS PROPERLY.
 
To sum up: you wish to install a new USB device and transfer all the
information from an old USB device.

Use Drive Image or Norton Ghost to clone the old drive to new drive.

This cloning takes place under 'DOS' and not in Windows.

When complete, disconnect the old drive and the new drive should function as
the same.

Should [very unlikely] you find that the drive letter has been changed then
use device manager to reassign the old drive letter to the new drive.

PS It is considered very impolite to 'shout' - using all capitals in your
posts.
 
Actually, Windows is going to see the two drives differently no matter
what you do. Even if these drives were the exact same model/firmware
version, Windows will still assign them a different Vid number. You
should have no problem doing what you are trying to do though.
