I'm having the same problem on both my computers at home.
Seems to have begun when I networked them for the first
time last weekend. I have been working days on the issue
and have been unable to resolve. Found an article in the
MS Knowledge base that said it is the result
of "Administrative sharing" of the drive on which you are
trying to change the size of the paging file. So I went
to the share tab on the properties of that drive, changed
it to "do not share this drive", deleting all the shares,
logged off and back on, and then tied to set page file
size. No luck. BTW, I have checked the permissions and
they are set to "full control" for everyone, admin and
users, so with all due respect to Patrick, that doesn't
seem to be the cause either. I'm beginning to think
virus, because I'm quickly running out of ideas. Plus,
this is the kind of thing viruses in the past have
dirupted, i.e. memory usage and availibility. Anyone who
has solved this problem would be much appreciated.

Most likely the system account "Full Control"
permissions
were removed form
the drive. (note: the system account aka NT Authority is part of the
Everyone group)
