hi
does anyone know what svchost is? it takes like 15mb of memory!

and why does the PC start to work slowly when it has been turned on for a
long time? is it because of the same reason as in Win98? and what is the
amount of memory recommended for WinXP running several programs, but nothing
too much, just normal?

thanks! really useful! =D
and does anyone know about my other question of amount of memory?

Well you weren't specific about how much memory you have. Unlike earlier
versions of Windows that would operate on 128mb or even less, Windows XP and
XP software programs require much more. XP will run fine on 128mb but the
moment you start installing any software, you will quickly find that it runs
like a dog. Personally I'm amazed that manufacturers still sell computers
with XP and only 128mb. It just doesn't work. At a bare minimum, you need
256, but 512 is really better suited to avoid slugishness. The less RAM you
have, the more swap file or disk activity you will experience. It's a real
pain.

Good Luck
