stupidly i deleted the svchost.exe from my start-up
folder and now everytime i start windows i get either one
or two error messages about it ("...encountered a problem
and must close")

putting the file back didn't make a difference and i
haven't noticed anything 'strange' because i deleted the
file but the error messages are getting on my nerves.

any suggestions?

SVCHOST.EXE is a Windows program that is used to launch a
number of services in Windows. There can be several
instances of it running at the same time. It is also
replaced by the Welchia and Assarm worms. Do this: 1) Go
to http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ and download the
Stinger virus removal program - it will fix the worm
problem, 2) from the Command Prompt run "SFC /scannow"
(without the quotes) and it should detect the problem and
replace the SVCHOST.EXE file. Have your Windows disc
handy, SFC will ask for it . . . good luck.

thanks for the reply, great help :o)

although, i never got a Windows CD with the PC so is
there another way around this?
