At any given time, svchost will go up to using 95 percent
of my computer's memory and it stays like that until I
reboot. On top of that, sometimes when this happens and I
reboot I get an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error. How do I
fix this? What is svchost? Is it important?

Try http://security.symantec.com
and confirm that you have a virus. The MSBlaster virus
(among others) will use svchost.
