svchost files

I was looking at my task manager and noticed the svchost files listed under
the processes tab, are the number of these supposed to fluctuate? (as I've
noticed in different instances of task manager) Sometimes there's two
svchost.exe files other times there are four to five. Anyone out there able
to enlighten me on this (like, what are these files associated with, etc.)??
any help is greatly appreciated. thx.....petey

Perfectly normal, as the file name implies, its "hosting" your apps.
