svchost.exe

I'm quickly learning to dislike the Windows XP operating system... I wish someone would explain to me, in laimens terms, what svchost.exe is, why it constantly needs to access the internet, and if I don't permit it to access the internet why I am not able to access the internet or check my email... I don't like any executable files accessing the internet without me knowing what the *#$^ is going on... Should I wipe Windows and try Linux? Try to explain this like you are explaining it to a child... Hopefully you have patience, because i do not...
 
you may have a virus called the Mblast.exe.worm. Check

svchost is a legit process on xp, I get a daily
newsletter from www.kamando.com and this was mentioned
about two months ago, I believe that it has somthing to
do with dll's but I could be wrong about that but I do
remember in the news letter to leave it alone.
