I have a P4 2.6 GHz 1GB RAM. Running XP Home Edition. My
PC is running verrrrrry slow. The Task Manager shows the
PC at 100% CPU usage with one of the svchost.exe running
at 60-85% CPU usage. I have nothing running. Also,
whenever I get into REGEDIT, I get bounced out after a few
seconds. I also get bounced out of other DOS type
programs. I figure the DOS bounce is from my CPU usage at
100%. What's going on with the svchost???? How can I fix
it?

I would suggest; Run an updated virus scan and download and run Spybot S&D
as well as Ad-aware. You can find both with a google search.

HTH, JAX

I had this same problem, except that windows would close
my virus scanner before it even had a chance to start. I
suspect a worm-type virus, but don't know what to do.

I have exactly the same problem, however no problem on
regedit. Anyway, I think it's not a virus/spyware/trojan.
My assumption is it is MS windows file and has to do with
network settings. I recently installed ADSL and changed
several Zone alarm and network settings (although I don't
even have network, my ADSL is considered as network
apparently). Since then, it happened copple of times that
starting my PC and almost finished, the processor keeps
very busy and is very slow. After a copple of minutes he's
ready doing "something" and then I can work normal again.
I thought my Spyware software was scanning in background,
but it seems it was svchost when checking task manager.

There is also a virus with a similar name as the MS
windows file.60%-85% is not normal
