svchost.exe errors

Just got new motherboard, processor and hard drive.
Installed Win 2000 and when I go online to get updates,
get error message svchost.exe has generated errors and
will be shut down by windows. Mostly, the updates won't
install. What is causing this problem? Thanks for any
input. Jim P.

Thanks for your help. I used another computer to download
the patch and copied it to floppy for the install. Also
installed Zone Alarm as suggested by the Microsoft article
and all is well. The worm had not got to my computer, but
apparently kept accessing a port which the firewall
prevented. Thank You Again. Jim P.
