Hi folks-
If I boot my computer (XP SP2) and let it sit at the logon screen for a
minute or more, I get a svchost.exe error. After clearing it, attempts
to logon from there work to some extent but the system is slow, the
taskbar is all messed up, and most services like VirusScan (8.0i) give
errors. A whole host of further errors will cascade from this, and
logging off will hang. At some point I may get an RPC shutdown.
If I logon promptly after the system boots, there's no problem.
I've done VirusScan, Spybot, and Ad-Aware, which come back clean with
the latest definitions. I'm not infected with anything.
This is a new T42P with relatively little installed on it. MS Office,
Acrobat 5, Lotus Notes, etc.. Up to date with all Windows patches as of
today.
What's a good way of tracking down which service or application is
botching things up?
Thanks in advance.
Marc
