Running Win XP, on an Intel p4 @ 2400 mhz, with 512 megs
ram, radeon 9600 pro w 256 megs ram, 40 gig drive,
running cable internet, etc.
When I first startup my computer SVC host in its 4 forms
(checking these from the Windows Task Manager)
SVCHOST.EXE LOCAL SERVICE ---------- always at 00%
SVCHOST.EXE NETWORK SERVICE -------- almost always at 00%
SVCHOST.EXE SYSTEM ----------------- almost always at 00%
SVCHOST.EXE SYSTEM ----------------- almost always at 00%
System Idle Processs --------------- usually at 97-99%
And I'm completly fine with this, a program of which all
I know is that it manages multiple programs on startup.
Is using relativly nothing on my computer...
However, and here is the reason for my question
after the computer has been on (its apperently random it
can be on for 12 hours and NOT have this happen, or it
can be on for an hour and have this happen) the first
incarnation of SVCHOST.EXE starts GOBBLING the system
resources usually running at 50-90% of my CPU...
So it becomes
SVCHOST.EXE LOCAL SERVICE ---------- almost always 50-90%
SVCHOST.EXE NETWORK SERVICE -------- almost always at 00%
SVCHOST.EXE SYSTEM ----------------- almost always at 00%
SVCHOST.EXE SYSTEM ----------------- almost always at 00%
System Idle Processs --------------- usually at 50-10%
And the reason it REALLY drives me nuts is when this
SVCHOST really kicks in and starts gobbling my resources
it can even make typing this message become choppy and
annoying (I can type words at a slowish pace and they
won't appear for a second or two).
Now for games/internet this is murder on them, it forces
me to reset my computer anytime it happens (which again
brings SVCHOST.EXE to 00%). And when its going I can
hear the chip sound of the harddrive/computer working.
So anyone got ANY clues on WHY it does this, IF its
normal, and what can be done to prevent it from doing
this/stop it from doing this when it happens (or even if
its a good idea to interrupt whatever its doing).
