Suppress the Printing of the Background

I use both PPT 2002 and 2000.

When I create a design template, I have difficulty
preventing the design of the template from printing when I
print handouts. My question is, how do I prevent the
background of my design template from printing for both
versions. I tried printing in black and white using the
options under the print box but it simply prints the
background of my design templates in black. Can you tell
what I need to do for 2002 and 2000 versions of powerpoint?

Thanks!

Go to your slide master (View/Master), then go to B/W View (View/Black
and White). After that, right-click your background
image/graphic/whatever and select Black and White Settings. In those
settings, choose something appropriate -- usually "white" or "don't
show" will do the trick.

This doesn't change your color stuff at all, it's only a b/w setting for
printing.
