I purchased the windows xp upgrade for windows 98. It
will not load, in fact after many attempts, each time
going a little further, it wiped out my system.
Fortunately I was able to utilize the F8 function and go
into safe mode to restore my original settings. I
contacted Office Max for refund and they said that it is
a user item and would not. They said to contact
Microsoft to see what the problem was. I was not about
to spend $35.00 for them to tell me I have a problem so I
went to their e-mail support. There is no e-mail support
for windows zp upgrade. Then why are they selling it and
making us lose over $100.00. I am upset and this is a
big rape from microsoft.

Hello Jack
I am thinking there is a conflict with your system or you are doing
something wrong.
Download and run the upgrade adviser
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/upgrading/advisor.mspx

To do an upgrade you have to start the computer then install the XP
cd.(choose Upgrade, not Full Install when prompted)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316639&Product=winxp

To do a clean install you will need to put the cd in and then shutdown and
boot from the cd.

Upgrading an Operating System is no small undertaking.
It requires research and preparation.

I do wish Microsoft would put a big red sticker on every
Windows XP software box that says something like:
"CHECK WITH YOUR SYSTEM MANUFACTURER FIRST"
or
"MAKE SURE YOUR ARE PREPARED FOR UPGRADING"
or something like that, but that is not the way marketing people
go about selling product.
