I am running Excel 2002.
I am looking at the MS Balance Sheet Template.
What facilities are built into Excel to show me how any template or existing
workbook is formatted?
Is there some way of getting a summary/overview?

Thanks
Brian Tozer

You can unprotect a copy of the template, do file>new and select the
template, then do tools>protection>unprotect sheet,
then you can play around with it by pressing F5>special and formulas to see
a;; formulas you can clear all formatting,
it won't affect the template if you open it that way since you open a copy
with xls extension

Hi Brian!

AFAIK there is no summary or overview provided with these templates
although you can use the auditing features of Excel to show precedents
and dependents.

One word of advice is that these templates do make heavy use of named
formulas and you will need to look at these using the Insert > Name >
Define and going through the list of names used to find any formulas.

It's a great pity that the work that was put into these templates was
not followed up by user documentation and that the templates were not
regarded as an educational tool that users could benefit from. But at
least it's a start.
