sumif if cell does not equal #N/A

I would like to sum a column with some #N/A in it.
I tried using sumif with <> "#N/A" with no luck.
What is the criteria for not equal in this function?
Do I have to treat "#N/A" in a special way?
 
=SUMIF(J:J,"<>#N/A",J:J)
