Sum fields without duplicates

I want to sum a few fields however there are duplicate records which mess up the totals.

1) I tried to use the distinct however it only works at the record level and the syntax for putting it in the SUM function is not supported SUM(distinct price).
2) Dlookup seems to be for something else can't figure out where to put the"=DLOOKUP" expression.

Any help would be much appreciated. THX
