Hello everyone,

I'm just making the switch to WMA from MP3s. I notice
that Napster encodes at 128, but as I understand it VBA
would be better, right? But I'm not sure which setting
to use. So I'm curious to know what others use for
encoding their CDs as WMA files.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hello,

I prefer to encode at 192kbps or greater for the best
sound. If hard disk space is an issue, then go for 128 but
no lower. I use the cdex ripper (free) which rips from
cd's, converts from wav to mp3 and back and also encodes
mp3 to mp3 (lower bitrate). The Lame encoder used in cdex
does a pretty good job at 128. Read reviews and download
it on cnet, here's the link:

Consider 128Kbps to be the minimum bitrate you should use. Try 160 and 192, and
do a comparison of all three.
