Suggestion for Indicating a Sheet Is Unprotected.

From a relatively new Excel 2003 user converted from Lotus 123.

Normally, I keep all sheets in all workbooks protected and I would like
to put a bit of code in my Personal.xls so that whenever any sheet
within any Workbook is un-protected there is some attention getting
indication of that status. When the sheet is protected, the indication
should disappear. The Tools/Protection/Unprotect Sheet entry is on my
Main menu via a mod to Excel11.xlb. It is very useful there.

I've tried various approaches using a macro, changing fill color of
cells, message boxes, etc. but haven't come up with a solution I am
happy with.

I will really appreciate any suggestions about how to approach this.

Also, I miss 123's ability to display unlocked cells in a different font
color but for right now I will settle for showing the sheet protection
status and will work on the cell thing later.

Thank you very much.

I find a simple glance at the toolbars will give me an indicator about the
protection of a worksheet.

You'll notice that lots of icons are disabled when the worksheet is protected
(especially on the Formatting toolbar).

These come to life when the worksheet is unprotected.

something like this assigned to a button ??
If ActiveSheet.ProtectContents = True Then Range("c1") = "P"

Thank you, Dave/

Yes, I've noticed that but the 'grayed out' icons don't grab the
attention of these tired old eyes.

I appreciate the suggestion, though.

Thank you, Don.

That is worth exploring.
