I have Windows XP and had sound when I bought this computer a year ago.
Somewhere along the line the sound has gone. In my feeble attempts to fix it,
I probably made things worse. I tried to go through the "Help" steps provided
on the pc but nothing has worked. Someone mentioned uninstalling and
reinstalling all drivers. I don't know enough about computers to do that. Can
someone help me, please?

I don't think you have to un-install and re-install all drivers. Just the
sound ones. Before I tell you how to do it, I want to check these things
with you:

Go to control panel > Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices > Sounds and Audio
Devices. Check that the arrow is pointing to high, and that mute is
unticked. Click advanced. Then drag the wave to the top.

If you changed anything, click apply, and test it. Does it work? If it does
click OK. It is fixed. If it is not, carry on...

Click on the Sounds tab click on one of the sounds (The speaker) and look at
the play button. Is it grayed out?

If it's grayed out, it means that there is a fault with the sound card. To
uninstall and reinstall drivers - Go to control panel > Performance and
Maintenance > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager > Expand Sound, Video,
and Game Controllers > Right-click your sound card > Click uninstall > Click
OK > Restart your system.

It should now work.

If it is not, it means there is a problem with the connection to the
speakers. Check it is plugged in correctly.

Let me know if anything works
Harry
