All of a sudden, without having changed any settings, when I start up the
computer it now wants me to select my user name from the Welcome screen. I
don't have a password associated with this user name, and I am the sole user
of the computer. I don't need to select myself every time, and have been
bypassing the Welcome screen for the past three years without incident. I
searched in the knowledge base and came up with Article 282866 from Nov 2004,
and my settings are accurate per those instructions. Does anyone know how to
resolve this issue? Thanks!

Go to Start -> Run. In the Open box type the following:
control userpasswords2
Click OK.
Uncheck the box "Users must enter a user name and password to use
this computer".
Enter your user name in the box that pops up and hit OK twice.
The next time your PC starts you should be automatically logged
on.
