sudden unexpected shutdown in XP home

I know I've read it somewhere, but can't seem to find the information now
that I need it :-(
My computer had started shutting down suddenly and unexpectedly for no
apparent reason. This has happened while programs were running and also when
nothing is running but the web browser (while online)

I have tried searching the Microsoft knowledge base but can't find anything.

Can anyone give me some ideas as to how to troubleshoot this problem?

A common cause is overheating. Or bad ram. Check ram with memtest86+
from www.memtest.org, go in to your computer's bios, ant look for a
hardware monitoring section, or PC health status, if you can't find it,
go through all of the menus.
