Subtotal, then sort groups by their subtotals

This seems like it should be an easy question, but is there a way to subtotal
by an amount, then sort the groups by that amount? i.e. get total Acct.
Receivable Balance by customer, then sort the customer groups so that the
customer with the highest receivable balance is on top?
 
Try this:

Collapse the data range to show only the subtotals
THEN sort by balance

When you expand the groups, you'll see that the data moved with the
subtotals during the sort.
