Subtotal across multiple sheets

Hi there
Does anyne know if you can use the subtotal function across multiple sheets?
If so how?
I have tried to use the following, but all I get is a #VALUE.
I assume this is because of the colon.

=Subtotal(1,Sheet1:Sheet2!A1)

Any help would be much appreciated.

subtotal will not do 3D calcs.

=SUBTOTAL(1,Sheet1!B4:B5,Sheet2!B4:B5)
