If I use a rule to send a new email message from the Inbox to a subfolder,
shouldn't a new email sent into that subfolder make it expand, turn "Bold"
and show a (1)?
(This is what happens to the Outlook Express subfolders.)

Or do subfolders in Outlook have to be manually expanded to show if they
have new messages?

Steve

I have asked this question several times over the last few weeks, but nobody
seemed to know the answer.
Well, I have just figured out what the problem was.
If the Folders view is closed when the messages arrive, the messages will
not expand out from their subfolders when you click on the folder name in
the title bar to view the folders menu.

In other words, the Folders View must be active all the time..... not
hidden.

If the Folder View is closed when the message arrives in a subfolder, there
will be no indication that a new message has arrived when you open the
Folders View.

Hope this will help some of you to answer another poor newbie with the same
type of problem.

Steve
