Hi,

I have various styles which I have created in a document,
and I want these to appear as a possible choice in every
document I create. Is there a way of making a created
style "global"??

Also, can I delete from the drop down list some of the
styles that I don't / will never use??

Thanks for your help,

Gary.

If you copy your styles to Normal.dot, they will be available in all
documents. If your document is based on Normal.dot (that is, you created it
using the New button or by selecting Blank Document in the File New dialog),
then just check the "Add to template" box in the Modify Style dialog.

You can't delete Word's built-in styles, but you can prevent Word from
displaying them in the Style dropdown, which by default displays the "Styles
in use." In the Format Style dialog, change the display to "Styles in use"
and delete the unwanted styles (this has to be done one at a time, with a
confirmation dialog for each, so it is very tedious if there are a lot).
Deleting them from this list does not delete them from the template, but it
does reset them to their default formatting. You will not be able to delete
Normal or any of the build-in heading styles.

If you have Word 2002 or 2003, you can get much more control over which
styles are displayed by selecting Custom at the bottom of the Styles and
Formatting task pane, then checking off exactly which styles you want
displayed.
