A style description includes options which are specific to that style.
For a style based on another style (see the "Based on" box in the
Modify Style dialog) only the settings which are different from those
of its parent style will be listed. For a style without a parent, that
is, a style based on "(no style)" all style properties are listed.
In other words, default paragraph or character settings always come
from a style (the current one or from a parent), and can be changed
(either in the current or parent style). In order to reset a paragraph
to the default settings of its paragraph style, press Ctrl+SpaceBar
(to remove character formatting not in style) and Ctrl+Q (to remove
paragraph formatting not in style).
I'm not sure what the List tab is. Could it be the List Styles tab in
the Bullets and Numbering dialog box? It can be used to create list
styles (available in Word 2002 and later). Look this up in Help.
