Sometimes I want to change the style of a paragraph, eg I may want to change
it from "Heading 3" to "Normal" and after going throught he procedure of
selecting Normal from the drop down list, the format remains in "Heading 3"
style. Even after I invividually change the font type/style/size to the
settings for Normal, selecting "Normal" from the drop down list does not
change the indicated style from Heading 3. In other words, Word is not doing
what it's told! Why is this please?
TIA .... Greg

Word makes a distinction between applying a style to a paragraph and
applying a style to text within a paragraph. If you select the entire
paragraph including the paragraph mark, or you simply click within the
paragraph so the selection is empty, then the style is applied to the entire
paragraph. If you select something within the paragraph (eg a word or two)
then the style - is applied only to that selection, and only as far as it
affects character formatting.

I still have this problem where the style does not change even when I simply
click inside the paagaph whose style I want to change. Very frustrating! Are
there other possible explanations? TIA .... Greg
