I have done as instructed on previous threads and installed the Windows Firewall. (I think!) I followed the directions and did the network set-up wizard. How can I tell if it is installed? I appreciate the help you have already given me!

Hi LindsayG

I have done as instructed on previous threads and installed the Windows Firewall. (I think!) I followed the directions and did the network set-up wizard. How can I tell if it is installed? I appreciate the help you have already given me!

Go to Control Panel > Network connections
Click your connection. In the left pane, under details, it should say
something to the effect that it is connected (or disconnected) with
security server or ICF (Internet Connection Firewall), this means your
firewall is on.
If it only reports it is disconnected or connected, then your firewall
is off.
(The wording may be different because I am not in front of an English
edition of XP).

Good luck

Thanks so much Roger! It helped and now I have it enabled! Hopefully those stupid windows pop-ups will go away now! You are an angel!

Your internet connection icon will have a padlock picture over the top of it
if the firewall is enabled.
